The Emery Book Club is comprised of a group of young students interested in enriching their lives through reading. The first book chosen by the book club is Sister Souljah’s, “The Coldest Winter Ever”. It’s a heavy look at teen life in the ghetto while spotlighting the life of one teen lost in the world created by her father’s once powerful reign as a drug czar.
The book club meets every Wednesday after school.
About the Author:
R. Dafina Kuficha, aka Ms. Dafina or Auntie Da, has practiced Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for almost twenty years. A mother, grandmother, and “Auntie” to many, she is serious about creating a world that allows, expects and encourages children to be children, respecting their young, vulnerable minds. Overwhelmed by the disrespectful music, movies and treatment of our children, she feels blessed to have opportunities to be a role model, mentor and resource for them. She believes in the Ghanaian concept around parenting, “It takes a (healthy) village to raise a child”. Ms. Dafina would add, “All children are our children, leave none unloved or untaught.”
